The storefront crisis has been unraveling in Western cities for the last decade, as a consequence of the 2008 recession and a change in consumer habits, due to the outbreak of online shopping. Therefore, Retail faces the new coronavirus crisis in an already delicate position, and action needs to be taken to ensure the viability of local stores.
This article wants to raise awareness not only about the endangered situation of small retail, but also about the relevance of such activities in the livability of our streets and neighborhoods.
